The purpose of the NWA State Cup Competition is to provide the opportunity for the Players,
Coaches and Umpires in the Metro and Aboriginal Academy Teams, Metro Association Teams (20U
Division only) and Regional Academy Teams to compete against each other. The State Cup sits within
the NWA Competition Pathway and is one of the selection points for Players, Umpires and Coaches
into next level of programs and pathways. The State Cup Competition is held annually.
The outcomes associated with the State Cup Competition are as following:
a) To deliver a whole of state performance pathway Competition for NWA Aboriginal, Metro and
Regional Academy Programs and Association teams
b) To link this Competition to the WANL and other NWA and West Coast Fever Club Programs etc.
(i.e., Futures – State Team programs)
c) To ensure the continued identification and development of all participants – Players, Coaches,
Umpires, and Officials at a performance pathway level.
d) To provide an opportunity for Associations to showcase their best participants in a state pathway
Competition.
e) To raise and enhance the profile of netball in Western Australia.
The Competition age divisions for the Netball WA (NWA State Cup) are as follows:
• • 20U
• • 16U
• • 14U
The teams participating in the 14U and 16U age groups will come from Metro, Aboriginal and
Regional Academy teams.
The 14U and 16U age divisions will each consist of 13 teams across two divisions, including six (6)
Metro Academy Program teams, one (1) Aboriginal Academy team (in either the 14U or 16U age
group) and six (6) Regional Academy Program teams.
Metro Associations will be invited to enter one (1) team each in the 20U age division, Regional
Academy teams will also compete in the 20U age group. The 20U age group will provide
opportunities for athletes not currently involved in the GIG WANL Competition to display their
talents and potentially increase their changes of being recruited by a GIG WANL Club.
The 20U age division will consist of up to 18 teams with a mixture of Metro Association teams and
Regional Academy teams.
